One of Boston's smallest neighborhoods is known as Bay Village. Also known as the Church Street District, South Cove and Kerry Village, the neighborhood is surrounded by the South End and the Theater District, and is close to many shops and restaurants. Bay Village is made up of a few very narrow one-way streets that are set up in an asymmetrical grid. This lends to a comparatively quiet and foot-traffic friendly neighborhood due to low car traffic. Like the neighboring Back Bay, Bay Village also has an architectural society that controls what can be done to the building's exterior appearance. A very active Bay Village Neighborhood Association is set in place to control bothersome neighborhood happenings such as graffiti, littering, traffic and pet waste. It is also well-known for its quarterly newsletter and putting on events such as annual block parties, Spring and Fall cleanup days, and book clubs.
